Hillside Fireweed

A painting of a hillside covered with fireweed in bloom.  Fireweed thrives in disturbed soil and burned areas and is one of the first plants to reestablish after a forest fire.  I like the mix of saturated and less saturated colors.  This one will be in a show at Artique Ltd Gallery in Anchorage in September.

  1. The darks in the foreground work really well with the pinks. I think this is the plant we call Old Man's Beard in the UK because of its fluffy white seed heads. A weed, but I like to let a few grow wild in my garden for the butterflies and a splash of colour.
