Mock Orange on Pale Blue

Another painting of the extremely fragrant mock orange bouquet.  The top lighting casts a wild shadow around the base of the jar.

Mock Orange Blossoms in a Glass Jar on Gray

The mock orange, (Philadelphus) is blooming and filling the air with the most wonderful fragrance.  These blossoms lasted for several days in my studio and welcomed me with sweet perfume.

Quince Blossom

Painting of quince flowers of the fruiting variety.   The blossoms look like apple blossoms but are larger.  The fruit look somewhat like pears but are fuzzy and hard.  They are quite bitter and impossible to eat raw, but make a nice jelly when cooked.

Bowl of Clementines SOLD

Another painting featuring the glass bowl.  I had lots of fun with wiping out lights and reflections in the oranges, bowl and table top.  The background was dark blue with bright teal dots.  I painted them in  but realized it was too dotty, so I took most of them out.

Bowl of Lemons on Black and Teal SOLD

The yellow color of the lemons harmonizes with the deep green of the background.  I like the reflections in the glass bowl that obscure the lemons and the dark background.  Most of the lights were painted by wiping out.

Lemons in a Glass Bowl

When life gives you lemons, first paint a light-drenched high-key still life painting of the lemons in a clear glass bowl; then make some lemonade to celebrate your efforts.  I like the warm and cool colors of the lemons in light and shade and the lavenderish grays in the bowl and on the tabletop.

Yellow Rose in the Light

A shadow fell across most of this bouquet leaving just one rose fully in the light.  Another painting of the Father Hugo Rose.

Father Hugo Rose Square Glass Jar

Spring is here when the Father Hugo Rose blooms - several weeks before any other rose has the notion.  The large bush has tiny leaflets and is covered with small (2 inch) single yellow roses.  Fragrant with a hint of cloves or honey.  This is a species rose originally from China.
I like the lights and darks in the flowers and leaves.

Green Coffeepot and Blue Cups SOLD

I really liked the green coffeepot (or teapot) so I painted it again, and this time I put just about every color into the mix.  I like the reflections and the strong top lighting which gives such interesting shadows.

Traveling Chicken Visits Vashon Island

I joined a website for artists called the Traveling Chicken  A yellow ceramic chicken has been passed from artist to artist and each artist has painted the chicken in various settings, and posted the images on the communal website.  Each artist gets to make up a story and several artists have added additional travelers to keep the original chicken company.  My idea for the chicken was to try to pose the figurines in a way that tells something about the place I live - Puget Sound.  The chicken travels next to Georgia.

Green Coffeepot on Green

Probably a coffeepot, but since there are teabags in the painting, I suppose it could be a teapot.  This was a thrift store find so there was no label.

Portage Store View SOLD

The portage store on Vashon was built in 1903.  It was one of the stops for the Mosquito fleet and is built on the isthmus between Vashon and Maury Island.  This painting will be at Bergamot Home on Vashon during May and June as part of the "Indigo" show.

Veteran's Day Antiques

I'm re-posting this one from a couple of years ago. It will be in the Indigo show at Bergamot Home.  It's Veteran's Day- November- a scene at Vashon Center.  The walnut tree leaves are yellow or gone and the late afternoon sun is tinged with pink.  The shadows are a blue violet - which perfectly fits with the indigo theme.
