Silver Bowl and Eggplant on Dark Gold

The background color is actually raw umber, but most people wouldn't recognize it, so dark gold is a better description.    I like the intense top light and the interesting reflection in the bowl.

Silver Bowl and Red Cherries

This painting originally had lots of gold and orange in the tabletop and in the silver bowl.  I decided that it would be more harmonious and dramatic if I reduced the colors and simply made it black, gray, white, and red.  It's fun to go back and try a new idea on an old piece. For those of you who want to see the original, it was posted on August 13, 2011.  Which one do you like?

Mt. Rainier near Mineral Lake

The inspiration for this painting was a photo taken during a mushroom hunt near mineral lake in the fall.  We didn't find mushrooms, but it was a glorious day.

Marsh SOLD

This painting was created from a photo by Elaine Stolt posted on a Daily Paintwork Challenge.   You can see my painting and everyone else's paintings at Daily Paintworks: here.
The original image was square but I made my painting horizontal to emphasize the flatness of the marsh.  I like the gradation from a dark foreground to a light background.  The image is tranquil and still with just a suggestion of movement in the ripples in the foreground.  I posted this painting on my Etsy store here.

Single Pomegranate

I haven't eaten one of these since I was ten,  so it was time to try one.  I split one open, but the seeds were hard and not as juicy and gelatinous as I'd expected.  Was it underripe? or stored too long and dried up?
I like the luscious colors and the lost and found edges.

Sauvie Island Country Road

Sauvie Island is an island in the Columbia River near Portland.   The land is nearly flat and is occupied by fruit and vegetable farms.  It's a favorite blueberry picking spot.

Country Road

A country road somewhere in eastern Washington.  I was caught by the little splash of sunlight illuminating the foreground.  I like how the greens get cooler and less contrasty in the background.

Upcoming White Show

I'm happy to have been invited to participate in Kassana Holden's White Show at her shop Bergamot Home here on Vashon. Here's the collection of paintings altogether. Each one is 6" x 6" and painted from a still life set up in my studio.  It was a perfect opportunity to use those thrift store white china purchases.  There were some fun reflections and shiny spots.  And I did throw in some colors and lots of grays.

Patty's Roses

Patty is on vacation, and while she is away I have been checking on her house.  I nipped this stem from her backyard.  These delicate pink roses were bravely blooming in December, adding a bit of color to a gray northwest winter.  I like the lost and found edges, and the contrast of pink and gray - one of my favorites.
