Daisies on Blue Stripes

Blue feels so summery, the color of the sky, a lake or the ocean.  Daisies are a great early summer flower, they grow on the edges of the roads and in the ditches in my neighborhood.  The spot of gold in the centers of the flower complements the blues in the teapot and in the background.  12 x 12 framed, at my ETSY store

Bllue Teapot with Clementines

The clementines are in season, and not only are they good to eat, they are lovely to paint.  I like the saturated color of the oranges next to the dark complement of the blue teapot.  This is one of several clementine paintings that I did in response to dark and gray weather.  A bit of tropical sunshine in my studio to chase away the winter.  On my ETSY store

Blue Teapot with Sunflowers on Gray SOLD

This beautiful blue enameled teapot was a gift and had to be painted.  I like the shape and the color and enjoyed painting the yellow flowers.  I placed this pot at eye level so I had to suggest roundness with shadows and highlights The sunflowers are the last of the season; I chose them for contrast with

Another painting in a small format - this one is for the masters in miniature show at the Blue Heron -Vashon Center for the Arts gallery coming up in December.  I like the top lighting and the warm gray color that contrasts with the cool blue pot.

Blue Teapot and Eggshells SOLD

A month ago I painted the teapot, last week I painted the eggshells, in this post I put them together.  I combined warm browns in the eggshells and cool grays and blues in the background and teapot.  The colors are subdued and desaturated so they complement each other nicely.  I like the pale warm color inside the shadow of the eggshells.

Blue Teapot White Cups SOLD

The teapot was a gift and has been on the shelf for a while.  I put it together with the white cups and am very pleased with the sparkle and contrast.  The only pure whites in the painting are little dabs of highlight on the teapot.  I like the minimalist colors and the very tiny stripe of red in the reflection in the teapot.  I think that red stripe comes from the way light bends on a convex surface.  I see this sometimes in the edges of objects in bright glare.  (Though it might just be a distortion attributable to my bifocals.)
