The pitcher is probably pewter or possibly tarnished silver plate. I like the dark dull gleam of the surface with just a little bit of shine on the worn areas. This one is in Bainbridge Arts and Crafts, Winslow Washington in December.

Three Persimmons Silver Pot
I like the leaves of the persimmons. They are flat and leathery and dull in color and it's easy to put in too much detail to try to make them look like leaves. So I struggle to simplify the shapes, leave it unfussy, and still convey the idea. That's what makes painting fun!

Three Persimmons Gold Wall
A persimmon painting with a dark background. I like the shiny silver pot - fun to paint and a nice contrast to the matte surface of the persimmons. 8" x 10" oil on panel

Persimmons on a Windowsill
Painted in my studio from this year's crop of Fuyu persimmons. I like the minimal colors and the reflections in the silver pot (a thrift store find given to me by my daughter) 6" x 12" oil on panel.

Three Persimmons and Vase
Three persimmons and the spoon to eat them with. I like the leaves on the persimmons and the saturated colors of orange and purple. But I wish I didn't have the end of the spoon pointing out of the painting at the corner of the canvas. A candidate for my "fix-it" pile.

Persimmons and Vase 6x8
The persimmons were still good so I rearranged the still life on a different format of canvas: 6x8 instead of 6x6. I really like the reflected color under the lip of the vase. It's raw sienna and a little purple - a very dull color but the reflection wouldn't work without it.

Two Persimmons Purple Vase
I really enjoy the saturated colors of these orange persimmons and the purple vase. I also like how most of the space is dark, with just a small amount of light value and highlights.

Persimmons and Teapot
I found the teapot at Granny's Attic and knew I had the perfect item to go with the persimmons that have been ripening on my kitchen counter. When I first got the persimmons they were barely golden, but as they ripened and softened they have turned a deep rich orange.

Three Persimmons on White
This is the last of the persimmon paintings - they finally gave up the ghost. This is my favorite; I especially like the simple strokes of the leaf of the shadowed persimmon. And I like the contrast between the warm light-struck foreground and the cool shadows. I am always amazed at how long it takes to make something "simple," and how deliberate your strokes have to be to be "loose"

Three Persimmons on Orange
The limited palette emphasizes the color of the persimmons I liked the chunky leaves -very sculptural. They were dark and very neutral in color and even the light areas were not very light. It was fun trying to paint them without being too tight.

Three Persimmons on Gray
These persimmons have been sitting on the counter for weeks, waiting to ripen. All of a sudden they were past ripe and turning to mush, so it was time to paint or throw them out. I really like the thick sculptural leaf and chunky stem at the top of each fruit. I think the persimmon in shadow makes a nice contrast to the light struck fruit.
