Autumn Bouquet Zinnias and Cosmos SOLD

Zinnias and Cosmos in a small glass jar against a gray background.  An exuberant explosions of color for the end of summer.  I used strong top lighting to define and organize the shapes of the flowers.  And I positioned the tabletop at eye level to simplify the table.  This one will be in the Vashon Island Art Studio Tour the first two weekends in December - showing at the Pink House in Burton 23819 Vashon Hwy SW.  Everyone invited. 

Three Pink Peonies SOLD

Another one from last spring.  You have to squint a lot to paint so many petals.  I usually put in too much detail and wind up rubbing it out in the last two minutes of the painting.  On my ETSY store.

Two Peonies One Open

 A 6 x 8 original oil still life painting of two pink peonies lying on the tabletop. One is just opening, and one is completely open. The peonies are fragrant and lush, and remarkably sturdy. I like the way the light touches the flowers - I used a cardboard shield to control the shadows and throw the background into shadow. The shadows give a nice sense of volume.   On my ETSY store

Pink Peony Bouquet, Spring has arrived!

Pink peonies remind me of childhood - we had a peony bush beside the garage that came back year after year. The fragrance of iris and lilacs and peonies would compete to announce the arrival of spring.  I like the lushness of the blossoms and their delicate color.  Even though they are soft, they are hardy and have lasted in my studio for a week!  On my ETSY store

Small Vase of Zinnias Leaning Right - Two Zinnias in Square Glass Jar SOLD

The dark shadow in the background breaks up the space into two unequal parts and makes the painting more interesting.  The diagonal shadow leaning left opposes the flowers leaning right and makes a nice balance.  I like the dark pink centers of these pale peach zinnias.  On my ETSY store.

Zinnias Square Jar Toplight - Summer Flower Bouquet- Vase of Zinnias- Autumn Flowers SOLD

These flowers are from a farm stand just down the road.  They are sturdy and bright and have  colorful centers to contrast with the pale peach petals.  The painting is mostly high key, (that is, light in value); even the background is pale. But the dark shadows in the flowers let you know where the light is coming from and they keep the painting from being washed out and boring.  On my Etsy store.

Spent Rose and Two Rosebuds

These roses were left overnight in the studio and in the morning the open rose was starting to loose its petals, but the rosebuds were starting to show some pink.  I like the soft gray background color.

Pink Anemones Just Opening.

A painting from last fall when the Japanese anemones were blooming.  These were just starting and hadn't fully opened. For this one, I worked to lose edges and keep the whole piece light and high key.
