White Daffodils, Square Vases on Blue

6 x 8 original oil painting of white daffodils with orange centers in small square glass vases against a bluee background.  These flowers were from my garden this spring.  I like the pattern of lights and darks in the white petals and the contrast of the orange centers against the blue background.  Painted from a still life I set up in my studio.  On my ETSY store

Eggplant Painting in Spring Art Tour

Eggplant is one of my favorite vegetables.  Not just for eating, but also because the color is so deep and wonderful to paint.  This painting is very simple, but such lovely reflections.   This one will be at the Vashon Island Art Studio Tour during the first two weekends in May.  I'll be showing paintings at Dockton Pottery, 25913 99th Ave SW opposite the old Dockton Store.  Stop # 23 on the map.  Click here for a printable map

Three Pink Peonies SOLD

Another one from last spring.  You have to squint a lot to paint so many petals.  I usually put in too much detail and wind up rubbing it out in the last two minutes of the painting.  On my ETSY store.

First Daffodils

Not a subtle painting. The bright yellow of the flowers is repeated in the yellow ochre of the background giving a strong color dominance to the composition. The painting is mostly high key (light values) with just a touch of dark in the green stems. I like the cheery color and simplicity of composition- spring is here!  On my ETSY store

Pink Anemones Just Opening.

A painting from last fall when the Japanese anemones were blooming.  These were just starting and hadn't fully opened. For this one, I worked to lose edges and keep the whole piece light and high key.

Red Carnations with Green Wall

A painting of red carnations with a bit of green in the against the wall.  I've kept the colors minimal; red and green are complements and when you mix them together you get gray.  I like the light striking the flowers.

Sweet William or Dianthus or Pinks - all members of the carnation family.  They have the a lovely delicate appearance but are hardy and survived for several days under my hot studio lights.

Siberian Iris in a Glass Jar

Iris from my yard.  They don't last long, each blossom is only open for a day. They are such an intense deep blue color when I see them outside, but when I paint them under my spotlight I see more of the purple tones.

Single Daffodil Orange Strip SOLD

Another daffodil, this time in a vertical format.  I like how the silhouette of the daffodil breaks up the background into interesting shapes.
