Dockton Marina Low Tide

A view of the Dockton Marina and Quartermaster Harbor at low tide.  Early in the morning the water is pale and calm and the pilings are reflected in the still water.    From photographs taken on location.

Dockton Marina and Reflections SOLD

A view of the marina at Dockton on Vashon Island in Puget Sound.  Sometimes the light bouncing off the water makes the sky, sea and sand one color and one value.  Very sunny but difficult to capture. The strong dark shadows under the dock keep the painting anchored. 

Dockton Net Shed with Poles

A view of a net shed in Dockton - low tide in the late afternoon.  I don't know what the poles near the shed are about - maybe remnants of another dock?
I like the light and the contrast of the greenish blue hills and the reddish blue beach.  On my Etsy store

Dockton Harbor SOLD

The tide is out and the marina floats are resting low in the water.  Lots of verticals and horizontals.  I kept painting the posts in and then taking them out again to try to balance the tightness of the middle ground against the looseness of the foreground.

Dockton Road Looking North

Evening on the hill above Dockton looking towards Dockton corner and the old garage. The distant hill is the Burton Peninsula, and the light blue is the water of Quartermaster Harbor.  I like the late afternoon shadows across the road. 

Dockton Road

Looking south on Dockton Road just as the road climbs to the top of Maury Island.  Late afternoon sun illuminates the tops of the trees and leaves purple shadows on the road. I used orange, purple, and green in this painting - they are the secondary triad on the color wheel (compared to red, yellow, and blue, the primary triad)
