20% OFF Sale in my ETSY store - through December 2

Curb Lane Buses Only, 10 x 20, oil on panel,  20% OFF Sale in my ETSY store through December 2.  A departure from my usual subject matter- a cityscape from 4th Avenue in Seattle.  I like the harmonies of blues and greens and lavenders with a touch of hot pink and orange for contrast

Ellisport with Clouds

A view across Tramp Harbor towards Ellisport and KVI beach.  A sunny day with interesting clouds.  Painted from photos I took on location.

Twisp River Farmhouse

This is a warm sunny autumn view of a farmhouse near Twisp.  Last year we traveled Highway 20 on the last sunny days of fall and this painting was from a late afternoon side trip up the Twisp River Road.  The next day the skies were overcast and snow chased us home.
6" x 8" oil on panel.

Big Tree

From a trip to Whidbey Island; this is near Crockett Lake.   It could be a spruce or a fir, maybe a cedar.  I liked the pattern of tree limbs and spaces.

Whidbey View

I went to  Whidbey island last week to study at a workshop with Michael Workman.  We painted both in the studio and en plein air.  This was an effort from early in the week, the Methodist Church steeple on Anthes Avenue.  I like the light in this one.

Beach Shack at Cove

A shack on the beach at Cove on Vashon Island, with a view of the Colvos Passage in the background.    It was a bright sunny day with the sun at my back and distant white clouds in the sky--the damp sand reflected some of the cool colors of the sky.    I like the shadows on the pilings and under the cabin.

Vashon Ferry Terminal

I've been trying to paint ferries in a different setting.  This is the view from the dock of the Vashon-Fauntleroy ferry.  I've included the drawbridge and towers because I like the shadows and lights on the structure. The lighting is very frontal and flat and I think it goes with the squareness of the buildings and towers.  I like how the painting seems light and sunny.

Dockton Road Looking North

Evening on the hill above Dockton looking towards Dockton corner and the old garage. The distant hill is the Burton Peninsula, and the light blue is the water of Quartermaster Harbor.  I like the late afternoon shadows across the road.

Blueberry Fields

A view of the blueberry fields along the Mercer Slough in Bellevue Washington.  At the intersection of two freeways, but quiet and pretty and sunny in the low land .  One of our favorite summer activities - for dedicated pickers only!

Yellow Rose Bush

The Father Hugo rose bush was filling the yard with perfume and color.  I reduced the number of individual spots of yellow color and massed the flowers to give it a center and a focus.  This one went through lots of re-paints.

Two Northend Ferries at Sunset SOLD

A view of two ferries at the north end of Vashon.  Late afternoon sun has turned the sky and water shades of gold and purple.
This painting will be in the VAA's Archive Art Sale on the weekend of May 24-26 here on Vashon Island.  (The painting is 10" x 20")

Vashon Street and Hill

A view of Vashon's main highway looking south just past K2.  The distant hill is cool and purple in the late afternoon.

Mt. Rainier near Mineral Lake

The inspiration for this painting was a photo taken during a mushroom hunt near mineral lake in the fall.  We didn't find mushrooms, but it was a glorious day.

Sauvie Island Country Road

Sauvie Island is an island in the Columbia River near Portland.   The land is nearly flat and is occupied by fruit and vegetable farms.  It's a favorite blueberry picking spot.

Pale Lighthouse Pt. Robinson SOLD

How many ways are there to paint the lighthouse?   I think I've done them all,  but then I get a new idea.  A large metal radio tower and fence were built in the 1980's, just to the right of these buildings.  Using my artistic license I moved them just out of the picture.

Near Willapa Bay SOLD

This is a view of a low lying meadow on Willapa Bay.  I liked the glare on the water and the sun lightened edges of trees.  The road seemed to end at the water.  Perhaps a place to launch a boat?

I just posted this painting on my Etsy shop.  Click here to see.

Blue Water Smoke and Ferry SOLD

Another painting of the Vashon-Fauntleroy Ferry.    When the ferry pulls away from the dock, smoke obscures the trees and steep hills of Vashon.  I like the harmonious effect of the blues and greens, analogous colors on the color wheel.

Westport Lighthouse

The Westport Lighthouse sits on a dune on the south side of Grays Harbor.  Since the lighthouse was built the trees have grown up around it and now just the top of the lighthouse peeks out to the ocean.  The ocean is to the left of the lighthouse in this picture.

Lighthouse Beach Trees SOLD

The Vashon - Point Robinson Lighthouse sits on a low lying sandy beach that juts into Puget Sound at the south east corner of Maury Island.  This is a view at low tide looking up at the lighthouse and the Madrona trees of Maury Island.
