6 x 12 original oil painting of two Puget Sound ferries at the north end ferry dock on Vashon Island. Late afternoon sun peeks under clouds and lights the sides of the ferries but leaves the hills dark in shadow. On my Etsy Store

Blue Sky Sunset Ferry and Blake Island

18 x 36 painting of the Vashon-Southworth Ferry at Sunset with Blake Island and the Kitsap Peninsula in the background.  Sunlight peeks through broken clouds and colors the edges pink and yellow.  The ferry is in shadow except for a spotlight of white light.  I like the big sky and the blues and lavenders.  On my ETSY store

Big Sky, Ferry Passing Blake Island

12x12 original oil painting of the Vashon-Southworth-Fauntleroy ferry passing between Vashon Island and Blake Island.  Broken clouds and haze keep the sky light and the ferryboat is backlit by the afternoon sun. I like the mood of the painting: big sky, tranquil water, distant ferryboat, sun and clouds; life seems to move at a different pace.  On my ETSY store

Two Northend Ferries SOLD

12x12 original oil painting of two Vashon ferries at the northend ferry dock.  Late sun throws the hillside into shadow and casts a yellow light on the sides of the ferries.  Painted from photos I took on location.  On my ETSY store

Southworth Ferry Against A Dark Green Hill

I had a view of the Southworth Ferry from the hilltop on Pallisades Avenue at Vashon Heights. From that height the ferryboat looked like a toy as it pulled in and out of the dock.  The late afternoon sun threw a shadow across the hills behind the ferry landing and from the distance the water looked smooth and tranquil.  On my ETSY store

Southworth Ferry and Brown Hill SOLD

12 x 12 original oil seascape painting of the Southworth ferry in front of a dark hill on the Kitsap Peninsula.  Late afternoon light bathes the ferry in yellow and turns the sky orange.  Painted from photographs I took on location.  On my ETSY store

Ferry with Glare

12 x 12 original oil painting of the Vashon Fauntleroy Southworth Ferry as it heads across Puget Sound into the glare of the sun.  Ferries are a favorite subject of mine and I especially like them with the sparkling water.   I like how the bright sun throws everything into dark or light, obscures details  and simplifies broad areas.  Painted from photographs I took on location.  On my Etsy store

I walked a little ways down Bunker Trail to get this view of the North End ferry at Vashon.  The view is north towards Blake Island and the Kitsap Peninsula.  Late afternoon sunlight lights up the ferry against the blue water. In my ETSY shop.

On the Pickleforks

The pickleforks are the two narrow walkways above the loading ramps of the Washington ferries.  Passengers can stroll and sun and catch a lot of breeze, and look for whales and sea lions and pirates.  Painted from photos I took myself, though I admit I was inspired by the work of Alex Colville. This painting will be in my show at the Vashon Center for the Arts, Summer Arts Fest.  Oil on panel 10" x 20."  My show will be up July 31 through August 12, and the opening is August 2, 6-9 p.m.  You're invited.

Ferry at Fauntleroy SOLD

The Fauntleroy Ferry dock in West Seattle with a ferry loading and offloading cars, trucks and passengers.  The western sun puts a shine on the water, dissolves the distant shore in a pale haze and throws most of the ferry into shadow.  I like the reflections and movement in the water.

Green-Brown Smoke Ferry SOLD

A painting of the Vashon Ferry against a green-brown hillside. The ferry is pulling away from the shore late in the late afternoon and the smoke from its engines softens the hillside. Yellow sunlight lights up the side of the ferry and the smokestacks.  This painting is at a fund-raising auction for O Space on Vashon "The Golden Age of Mardi Gras Fundraiser & Auction" on Friday Feb 8

Here's an opportunity to buy one of my ferry paintings at an online auction and to support a good cause at the same time.  I just donated "Ferry with Sparkles" to the Vashon Maury Cooperative Preschool's 3rd Annual Online Holiday Auction, which will run from November 19th through December 2nd.  here's where to bid - auction is on NOW
This is a view of the Vashon-Southworth Ferry as seen from north end dock.  It is a hazy day, but a bit of sun shines through and adds sparkles to the water.

Blue Green Ferry SOLD

What is more Vashon than the Ferry?  We all use it, some of us every day.  It is a relaxing mini cruise or a source of aggravating frustration.  You have to be a special kind of person to live on an island.  This one will be in a showing at Vashon Center for the Arts during Summer Arts Fest.  My show will be from July 5 thru July 23.  VCA is open every day during July & August except Independence Day.
