Two Eggplant

Tiny Eggplant from Uwajimaya.  Whenever I get to downtown Seattle I try to stop in at the Japanese grocery to buy these beautiful tiny eggplant.  Most are about 3 inches long and vary from lavender pink to almost black.  I like the soft glow of the highlights.  On my ETSY  store.

Eggplant Painting in Spring Art Tour

Three Eggplant Silver Bowl

These dark red-purple eggplants are elegant next to this shiny Revere-style silver bowl.  I like the dark lavender reflections on the bottoms of the eggplant.  Painted from small eggplants I bought at Uwajimaya's grocery in Seattle.  On my ETSY store

Two Eggplant Silver Cup SOLD

This still life was the result of a shopping trip to Uwajimaya grocery in Seattle.  There they have the most amazing variety of produce, including these beautiful little round eggplant.  The stems are a soft fuzzy yellow green which is a delicious color to paint.  I like the reflections in the tabletop. 

Three Baby Eggplant

This one has a lovely gray color for the background.  Because the background color is dull and unsaturated, the purples and greens of the eggplant seem saturated and vibrant. A color by itself is not beautiful or ugly; it's the combination of colors that is harmonious or discordant.

Four Eggplants Green Polkadots

More paintings of baby eggplants.  I like how the purples and yellow greens complement each other.  Even though I have lots of color in this painting, I did limit the hues; the dots were originally blue but I made them a purple green instead.  The spot of gray in the corner adds a calm note. It was made by mixing the yellow green and purple together-very harmonious.

Silver Bowl and Eggplant on Dark Gold

The background color is actually raw umber, but most people wouldn't recognize it, so dark gold is a better description.    I like the intense top light and the interesting reflection in the bowl.

Every now and then I buy these lovely eggplants.  They are small and purple and shiny and hard and have such a lovely shape.  And I usually forget about them until they have started to turn to mush in the refrigerator.  This time, however, I did get them painted first.  And cooked them afterwards, too!

Three Eggplants Pewter Bowl SOLD

These small eggplants came from my favorite grocery store, Uwajimaya's.  (You can buy almost any type of produce there). These eggplants are only 3 inches long but have a beautiful color.   They are so dark that they go well with the shiny mirror-like quality of the pewter bowl.
