Sailboats in Quartermaster

A Sunny day painting of the view from Burton to West Seattle.  Sailboats anchor in Quartermaster Harbor; fluffy clouds dot the turquoise sky, and the dark green trees of portage bring drama to the scene.  24" x 24" oil on panel.  This painting will be in my show at the Summer Art Fest at the Vashon Center for the Arts 19600 Vashon Hwy SW, Vashon, WA 98070.  The show opens Friday August 2; the reception is 6 to 9.  I hope to see you there.

Sun and Dockton Marina

A sunny day view of Dockton Marina, with the "old" roof on the harbor building.  The new rood is an ugly shed roof so I revert to the shape that pleases me better.

Sailboats in Quartermaster Harbor

Art Tour starts Saturday.  Visit Dockton, see paintings at Dockton pottery!
A view from Burton towards Quartermaster Harbor: small boats moored in the harbor. The mooring buoys are permanent anchorages and are regulated according to placement and spacing. I might have moved the boats a bit closer together than they actually are for the sake of grouping the boats to make a nice painterly composition. And that's why the boats look like they might bump into each other. I've been known to move trees and buildings, hills and mountains; sailboats are relatively easy to move.

Sailing around Quartermaster, SOLD

Sailboats in Quartermaster.  Enough of a breeze to unfurl the sails and take advantage of the wind.  A nice day for a sail.  I like the light and shadow on the sail.   This one is at my show at PSCCU Credit Union here on Vashon through October.

Bridge View in Aberdeen

A view from the highway bridge looking towards the railroad bridge in Aberdeen Washington.  Motorboats and sailboats are docked in the Wishkah River and late afternoon sunlight turns the bridge trusses yellow and casts complex shadows.  12" x 12"  Painted from photos I took on location.  On my ETSY store

Burton Marina

More sailboats - this time on dry land.  A scene from the marina in Burton on Vashon Island, where there's a lift to haul boats in and out.   This will be at my show in September at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts in Winslow, Washington.  12" x 12" oil on panel

Blue Harbor and Sailboats

A view of sailboats at anchor on a sunny day in Quartermaster Harbor on Vashon Island.  The dark green hills are reflected in the water and sunlight bounces off the white decks.  I like the overall light and the saturated colors.  (Every now and then it's fund to use the colors undiluted.)  Painted from photos I took on location.   This painting will be in a show at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts in Winslow Washington in September 2014.  Click here to send me your post office mailing address if you'd like me to add you to my postcard mailing list for the show.  (The mailing list will be used for show postcards only)

Sailboats in Quartermaster Harbor SOLD

A view east across Quartermaster Harbor towards Portage and the hills of West Seattle.  The sun is behind the viewer, the water hills and sky are a gorgeous blue.  I like the limited color scheme.  I think blue is a cool color but the painting feels sunny and warm to me.

Sailing Lesson - Still at the Dock SOLD

A painting from photographs I took at the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union in Seattle where sailboats and rowboats are available for rent.  I like the sunlight on the sails and hull. I reduced the brightness of the whites in the background so that the foreground sailboat would stand out.

Sailing Around Burton SOLD

Quartermaster Harbor divides Maury Island from Vashon Island.  The sheltered waters are perfect for a sunny sail around the Burton Peninsula.

Two Sailboats

Two sailboats silhouetted against the dark green hill of Maury Island near Dockton, Washington.  Late afternoon sun casts a yellow light on the sailboat, and turns the shadows lavender.
